Player Bio

Michael started his career at the youth Academy at Eintracht Frankfurt when he was 13 and played until he was 18.  With the U-17 Team of Eintracht Frankfurt he lost in the final for the German Championship against the youth team of VFB Stuttgart.  After his time in Frankfurt, he moved to MSV Duisburg.  MSV Duisburg had been relegated from the Bundesliga 1st Division that season.  During that time, Michael was training with the U23 Team and got the call to come up and train with the First Team for the Club.

After a full year with MSV Duisburg, Michael moved on to the Kickers Offenbacher, of the Bundesliga 2nd Division. In 2007, during his tenure with Offenbacher, Michael received his first call up for the Ethiopian National Team for 2 friendly games in Addis Abeba, the capital of Ethiopia - against Kenya and Sudan. (Right now the Ethiopian National Team is suspendened from FIFA).

In August of 2008, he was signed by Frank Yallop of the San Jose Earthquakes of the MLS.  “'I am glad for this opportunity with Real Maryland, and what Coach Anthony Hudson and the owners of the club have given to me. I can't wait to get out there and play,” said Michael.

In his first two USL 2 league matches with Real Maryland FC, Michael Ghebru has seen 173 minutes of playing time.  “He is something special to watch,” said General Manager David Noyes.  Come see Michael this Sunday at 4 pm as the Monarchs take on the Wilmington Hammerheads at Richard Montgomery High School.  The Monarchs sit in third place in the division with Wilmington nipping at their heels one point behind in the standings.
