Araujo is Real Maryland’s backup goalkeeper behind Emilio Zelaya.

Araujo joins the Monarchs from Juventus F.C. The Maryland based side competes in the Virginia International League and were the 2007 Copa Taca champions. With Juventus, Araujo has also won the 2002 National Futsal Championships as well as the Regional Futsal Championships from 2002-2004. In 2004, Araujo and Juventus won the National Super-Y Club Championship.

Born to Salvadorian parents, Araujo is a native of Washington DC. If Zelaya suffers an injury, Araujo is a more then adequate replacement.

 

Steven Tupy

#5 -  Defender/Midfielder

Stephen Tupy is an industrious midfielder who will see time on the wings for the Monarchs.

Tupy joins Real Maryland from UMF Leiknir, a third division pro team in Iceland. In Tupy’s one season with the club, UMF Leiknir won the third division but lost in the promotion/relegation playoff with a spot in Iceland’s second division on the line.

Before playing in Iceland, Tupy finished a very successful college career with North Carolina Wesleyan College (NCWC). Tupy played all four years and was a USA South All-Conference selection in 2005 and 2006.

In 2006, Tupy started all 21 games for the Battling Bishops, tallying 1 goal and 1 assist and was named the team’s MVP. For his efforts in 2006, Tupy was also named to the D3kicks.com All Region Team and the NCCSIA All State Team.

During his time with NCWC, the team won two USA South Regular Season Conference Championships, one USA South Conference Tournament Championship, was invited to the NCAA Division III tournament twice, and made one NCAA Sweet 16 appearance.

 

Marcos Chantel

#19 -Defender/ Midfielder

Joining Real Maryland several games into the season, Chantal has brought flexibility to the team with his ability to play in both midfield and defense. 

Born in Belo Horizante, Brazil, Chantal is a veteran of several American leagues including USL-2 and the MISL, as well as clubs in Brazil, including the prestigious Rio de Janeiro side Flamengo.

Chantal moved to the area from Brazil in 2001, and played under current Monarchs coach Silvino Gonzalo with the Northern Virginia Royals in 2003.  Before coming to Real Maryland, he was playing indoor soccer with the California Cougars.

His favorite soccer team is Vasco de Gama of Brazil, but his favorite player is Argentina’s maestro Juan Roman Riquelme.  His favorite vacation spot is back in Brazil on the beaches of Rio.

 

Dia Hunte

#22 - Midfielder

Crystal Palace Baltimore

Real Maryland added 26 year-old midfielder Dia Hunte to bolster the roster for the six remaining games this season. He made his debut against Wilmington on July 18 and played the full 90 minutes.

 

A native of Trinidad and Tobago, Hunte had previously been with Crystal Palace Baltimore as well as having several training stints with clubs in Trinidad.

 

He moved to the U.S. in 2001 when he received a scholarship to Jacksonville University to play soccer. He ended up locally, graduating from UDC in 2006 with a degree in environmental science. He also captained the school’s soccer team in his final year.
