Daryl Ferguson

#15 - Defender

Another talented local player, Daryl Ferguson will anchor the Real Maryland defense. The center back is very technical, strong in the air, and tenacious in the tackle.

 

Ferguson joins the Monarchs from the Delaware Dynasty, a team in the USL Player Development League where he registered 4 goals and 1 assist last season.

 

Ferguson has also spent time with the DC United U-19s, and the BSU Tsunami.

 

Ferguson has also made five appearances for the Barbados National team.

 

In addition to playing for Real Maryland, Ferguson is a teacher and does field production for DC United.

Ferguson admires former French international center back Marcel Desailly. In his admiration for strong defenders, Ferguson says if he could meet anyone it would be Arsenal’s William Gallas. A big lad, it’s no surprise that his favorite food is “anything good”. His favorite music is reggae and his favorite place for R&R is Cancun, Mexico.

 

Stephen Basso

#3 - Defender

SV Darnstadt

Joining Real Maryland is a bit of a homecoming for the left back. Basso spent last season in the German third division. Basso played for SV Darmstadt 1898 where he tallied five goals, 15 assists, and lead the team in minutes played.

 

Before heading to Germany, Basso spent time in the DC United Youth system, playing for the U-17, U-19, and U-20 teams. With the DC United youths, Basso had 3 goals and 10 assist and made two appearances at Nationals with the U-17 and U-20 squads. Growing up in Maryland, Basso played his club ball for Columbia United.

Basso was born in San Jose, Costa Rica but grew up in Columbia, Maryland. His favorite soccer player is Italy’s Francesco Totti and his favorite team is Totti’s AS Roma in Italy’s Seria A. Basso says he would love to meet Italian players Totti, Palo Maldini, and Alessandro Del Pierro. His favorite food is pasta and Basso says he is happy to vacation anywhere where there is a beach.

 

Muner Hassen

#14 - Midfielder

Muner Hassen is a good example of the world wide renaissance of the classic winger. Hassen is very quick, good at taking on his man, getting to the end-line, and sending in precise crosses. Despite being a young player, Hassen already has extensive experience.

 

Hassen spent last season with the MLS Chicago Fire reserve team. Before joining the Fire reserves, Muner played at Mercer College in New Jersey where he led his team to the NJCAA National Semi-Finals in 2006 and was named to the All-Region and All GSAC team.

 

Hassen has also been called into a few U-18 National Team camps where he trained with the U-18 National team and played in a few unofficial matches.

 

In 2002 Muner attended the Adidas Elite Soccer Program (ESP), a camp for the top high school players in the country. In 2001, Hassen was named an NSCAA Adidas All American. Hassen played his club ball for Team America Premier, played for Virginia ODP, and spent time with the Region I squad as well.

Born in Washington DC, Hassen says his favorite soccer team is Barcelona FC in Spain. You can find him listening to hip hop and tigrinya music and if he is ever on vacation, try looking for him in Eritrea.

 

Angel Higueras

#7 - Midfielder

Real San Vicente

Last Club

Angel Higueras is another talented local player making the step up to the professional level. A very technical player with good vision, Higueras will feature in the center of the Monarchs’ midfield.

 

Higueras joins Real Maryland from Real San Vicente, winners of the Arlington League. In Real’s title run, Higueras chipped in with five goals.

 

Higueras has also won the Copa Taca with Maryland side, Juventus. Higueras propelled Juventus to the title with 10 goals.

 

From 2002-2006, Higueras played for San Luis, another team that plays in the local leagues in Maryland.
