Real Maryland FC's Alex Lee

Selected in MLS Supplemental Draft

Maryland Defender is Taken with the 11th Pick of the First Round

2012 MLS Supplemental Draft by FC Dallas

Silver Spring, MD – A member of Real Maryland’s inaugural PDL squad, defender Alex Lee, was selected today in the first round of the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft with the 11th overall selection by FC Dallas.

Lee, a Rockville, MD, native who attended Magruder High School, was an anchor for the Monarchs defense after joining the team in June, playing in six matches and scoring one goal.

He recently completed his senior season at the University of Maryland where he was a captain of the squad that made it to the third round of this year’s NCAA Tournament.

Alex Lee helped lead Real Maryland FC to a strong showing in their inaugural USL Premier Development League season, where they finished third in the South Atlantic Division and had one of the best records in the Eastern Conference.

The Monarchs are eager to improve on their initial success in the upcoming 2012 season.

Real Maryland FC is a proud member of the United Soccer Leagues where it participates in the Player Development League and the Super Y League.

2012 Real Maryland FC

PDL Team’s New Addition

Silver Spring, Maryland – On the heels of a tremendous turnout for the Monarch’s Second Open PDL Tryout on a balmy New Year’s Day, Real Maryland FC is pleased to announce the addition of Val Teixeira to the 2012 PDL Team as a player and coach.

Pending League and Federation approval Valdemar Teixeira will re-join the Monarchs for a second season in a row as a player and in a new role working within Coach Silvino Gonzalo’s Coaching Staff.  During the acquisition of Teixeira in the latter half of the 2011 PDL Season, the Monarchs saw resurgence and made a run for the playoffs only to narrowly fall short.

Johnathan Borrajo Returns to U.S

to join New York Red Bulls

Potomac SoccerWire

5 Jan, 2012

After a year and a half in Norway, former George Mason University and Real Maryland FC defender Jonathan Borrajo has returned to the United States to sign with the New York Red Bulls.

A right back who can also play in defensive midfield, the Clifton, N.J. native rose through the Red Bulls' youth academy and was a leading contributor during his four years at GMU, making 74 starts and earning the team's Fred Thompson MVP and Dennis Hamlet Defensive Player of the Year honors as a senior in 2008.

At the close of his college career, he joined Real Maryland when the club was still competing in the USL Second Division (professional) and quickly became a mainstay for the Monarchs, playing every minute and eventually becoming team captain. He was named to the All-League First Team and was a finalist for the USL Second Division 2009 “Defender of the Year.”

In August 2010 Borrajo moved to Scandinavia to join Hamarkameratene, a club based in southern Norway. Making 36 appearances, he helped "Ham Kam" earn promotion from the Norwegian Second Division.

“We believe that Jonathan is an exciting player who can compete for a spot in our starting lineup,” said Red Bulls General Manager and Sporting Director Erik Soler in a press release.

“Jonathan was an important part in helping his old team reach promotion to the Norwegian First Division and we are thrilled to be bringing in a young, local product to MLS and back to his hometown club.”
